Went to see The Correspondents last night at new venue The Book Club in Shoreditch (this could become my new official hangout for 2010) – if you haven’t checked them out yet then you’re missing a trick. Duo Mr. Bruce (Singer/MC) and Mr. Chuckles (DJ/Producer) are a tasty team of lyrical delight fusing hip hop and swing to create a genre called ‘swing hop’. (Although another term I’ve also heard is ‘electro swing’.) But who cares about labels! The duo can get any room pumping – and having seen Mr Bruce take to the stage in a huge tent at Bestival he proves that no place is too small…no venue too big for Mr Bruce’s dancing feet.
Get them on your ‘must see’ list this year!!
Both bands were flippin wicked. If you get the chance to see either… do it. I’m not sure about Frankmusik’s ballads so much – but I think he does upbeat pop perfectly like freshly baked pumpkin pie. Ahem. The atmosphere for Friendly Fires was just awesome though… best gig I’ve been to… since.. since.. Blur.
Check my highlights out:
