14 year old Duncan is on summer vacation with his mother and ‘in your face’ boyfriend Trent and his daughter Steph. The movie “The Way, Way Back” details the low self esteem of Duncan as he struggles to make friends whilst the adults party the summer away having the time of their life. But not without consequences. But Duncan makes an unexpected friend in waterpark manager Owen.. which will change his life.. for the better.
This is feel good fun film, and whilst it touches on some heavy themes it does so light heartedly. I left the cinema (embarrassingly enough) with a tear in my eye..just one… and I didn’t let it fall. So I’m not sure it counts. Ok.. maybe two.
But what did I learn? That people may become more fearful of losing partners the older they get – and that people may be more susceptible to accepting bad behaviour. Also that everyone needs a friend like Owen.. he’s cool. I want a friend like Owen. Owen where are you!
Great film, worth watching, funny script, an ohDearyme thumbs up!
