Turboweekend visit London

Wednesday night.. down to the Borderline to catch Turboweekend for the beginning of their European tour – having come all the way from Copenhagen it would be rude not to. But….who the f*&k are they? Selling themselves as an electro pop act made up of three childhood friends, Silas, Martin and….Morten I tried to find out.. just that..

Q: Who does what in the band?
A: Martin (Martin Øhlers Petersen: drums) sweats, Morten (Morten Køie: Bass) bleeds and Silas (Silas Bjerregaard: vocals) cries.. (Anders mops everything up and pats us on the head)

Just to clear this up – me with Silas (lead singer).. nice chap.. very friendly..

Q: How long have you been playing together?
A: We all went to school together and made our first band in 96 with a couple of other guys, playing covers of Nirvana and Foo Fighters, but mostly our own stuff. We started Turboweekend in 2006.

Q: How did you get into music?
A: Music got into us first. We don’t know how it happened but it took control. Like Bodysnatchers.

Q: What are your musical inspirations?
A: We like a lot of different music from pop, to electronica to hard rock but right now we’re listening to Tame Impala (Inner Speaker), PJ Harvey (Let England Shake), Serge Gainsburg (L’histoire De Melody Nelson). Also just bought tickets for Arcade Fire and Aphex Twin.

Q: If you could play any festival, which one would it be?
A: Woodstock 1969 or Coachella 2012

Q: Worst gig moment
A: Probably a home coming Christmas party in North Zealand. The guy who booked us really liked the band, but the 500 people in the giant gymnastics hall who made up the ”audience” couldn’t care less, and used the concert as a break between cheesy DJ sets to buy beer and catch up with old friends, which left us with a completely empty dance floor, feeling very unwelcome.

Q: If you could join any other band who would it be?
A: Martin would like to play guitar in Twin Shadow, Morten would like to play bass in Rage Against The Machine, Silas would like to play drums in Pixies, we’re guessing Anders would like to be sound engineer and keytech for James Blake

Q::What the hell is your music about?
A: ?tuoba cisum ruoy si tahw

Q:What do you think of English food?!
A: We’re fans of Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey but it’s not our impression that they represent the classic british kitchen. We’re not too crazy about fish and chips, but you’ve got some pretty good vinegar chips.

Q: Have you ever blagged anything ‘got for free
A: We’re gentlemen. Things are offered to us.

*oh boys.. COME on.…*

Turboweekend have just released their single ‘Into The Pavement’ which also stars Efterklang’s Casper Clausen alongside Turboweekend’s own Silas on vocals.

Interestingly enough the ‘Into The Pavement’ video is an accumulation of fans and friends who sent in home-made videos of themselves miming to the track which was thus edited into an extraodinary music video with a story about a small possessed TV wrapped around it. And…impressively enough all actors were drafted directly from the bands Facebook page…. Watch the video:
